"Rhea" will be sailing the turquoise waters of south west Turkey and from there to the beautiful Aegean  DodecaneseGreek islands...... seas that we have sailed for many years and love dearly.  These are our favourites because:
  • the winds are super for sailing, often stronger than the balmy Ionian but not as rough as the Cycladese
  • the sailing distances are convenient
  • there is a huge variety and choice of destinations
  • Turkey and flights to Turkey are good value at the moment

Where we sail:

"Rhea" is based at "Villa Julia" which is at Söğüt Köyü, near Bozburun.  It has wonderful cruising grounds right on the doorstep: the Bozburun, Datca, and Bodrum Peninsulas, and the Dodecanese Greek islands.  Let alone further afield for longer trips.

Itineraries:

We can create special itineraries on request depending upon the wishes of the guests and the weather.   Our adventures can include passage making over longer distances and intimate exploring amidst exquisite settings.  No trip is ever the same.  Sailing distances usually allow for a lunch time stop and then another sail to an evening anchorage or port.

Turkey in one week:

We can explore the real gems of the Turkish Carian Coast: the Bozburun and Datça peninsulas - far away from mass tourism, a taste of real Turkey and its ancient culture. We start and finish from either, Söğüt - a fishing village at the head of a large unspoilt bay surrounded by mountains, or nearby Bozburun - formerly the centre of the Turkish sponge fishing industry and now an area for wooden boat building - a wander around the yards is fascinating even for those not technically minded. Amongst the many beautiful bays and islands are many ruins, the countryside is some of the most unspoilt and wild of the whole South West coast of Turkey. On the south side of the peninsula is Loryma (Bozuk Buku) - an anchorage guarded by large fortifications dating from 432 BC, and Serçe - another natural harbour famed as the site of a bronze age wreck. On the North side are numerous anchorages, a ruined monastery with mosaics, castles, and the villages of Selimiye (Port Losta) - picturesque, at the head of a large enclosed bay, and Orhaniye (Keçi Buku) - in a forested steep inlet with a long sand spit sticking out into the bay. On the Datça peninsula the port is large, colourful and lively. Further west are several bays including the village anchorages of Mesudiye and Palamut. At the end of the peninsula is Knidos- really extensive ruins of a city with two ports dating from before Christ and the Byzantine era.

Greece in one week:

We start and finish in Bozburun, Turkey, and sail to a variety of Dodecanese islands, each with a charming individual character, bays, beaches, castles, monasteries, and ports.
Simi is closest. It is a firm favourite with us - on one side it has a steep sided port exhibiting venitian architecture, and at the other is a pretty natural anchorage with a a large monastery and retreat. Rhodes is much larger, with its famous old town, Castle of the Knights of St.John, shops, and nightlife. Alimia is west of Rhodes, haunting and deserted, with turquoise waters, whilst nearby Khalki has a pretty port, excellent seafood, and beautiful castle. Tilos is quiet, with 2 peaks, white beaches, and a fossilized miniature elephant. Nisiros is more fertile with a smoking volcano and hot springs. All these islands have so much to explore!
